Preparing for Your Child’s Assessment

We will use the Batelle Developmental Inventory 2 to determine if your child is eligible for ECI services, unless there is a qualifying medical diagnosis documented in your child’s medical records.  Our goal is to get a good picture of what your child can do so we will be asking them to complete some very specific tasks during the evaluation as well as asking you questions about things they may or may not do at home or in other situations, like Walmart or daycare.

We want both you and your child to be comfortable during this time so it is best for them not to be hungry, tired or distracted by TV or siblings.  If there are toys or other items that consume your child’s attention it is best not to have those available during this time.

Our staff are competent evaluators and observers of child behavior and will follow your child’s lead as they interact during the evaluation.  They may ask you to assist them if it would help us know what your child can do.

You will know if your child qualifies for our services at the end of the evaluation and the team then will plan the next steps to access appropriate services for your child.

Please know that we have committed a team of specialists to provide a comprehensive evaluation for your child.  This evaluation will be scheduled for a time that you agree to.  We understand that emergencies arise, however, please give us 24 hour notice if you need to change this appointment by calling 254-773-6787.
